I think metal has taken a few steps back in the last decade due to the overwhelming amount of bands with growling, screaming, and garbled vocals.
This has lead to a painful stereotype that often pushes people away from the genre, especially when it comes to live performance.
Vocals are part of your sound, and if people can’t understand your “singing” you might as well not even write lyrics.
